"You have no idea what I have lost. What everyone in there has lost because of what we're fighting for."
Kai sensed he touched a soft spot there. He knew that she must have gone through a great deal of suffering if she was a fighter. It was a common trait for all of them. The look of determination in her eyes was enough to confirm that indeed she was a fighter.
"I am sorry if I have offended you."
He was never good at this. Socializing, talking... making friends. That part has always been absent from his life. All he had was a sensei and a place to train. To become stronger. Everything he was doing now, it seemed like grasping for something in complete darkness. At some point he even had an urge to turn away, to leave, and lead a peaceful life in solitude, as he did until now. But as she said "That doesn't mean we stop fighting.", it brought him back. This phrase was true for him as well, but on the other hand it had a completely different meaning. And though he didn't realize it quite yet, him and Faith, they had something in common. They both had an evil side inside them, and used it's power to bring peace to the world.
A moment of awkward silence enveloped them. The odd duo was still standing in front of Hyperion. By now the girls that Faith brought from China must have alerted someone of the disturbance. He anticipated company any moment now, so he needed to act quickly. He still didn't get the answers he came for in the first place. And though this girl was giving him a chance, a whole army of slayers and god knows what else could be a problem, if they didn't share Faith's enthusiasm about him.
"I need to ask you one more thing. The awakening, how did it occur?"

"I am sorry if I have offended you."
Faith realized she'd gotten defensive. She hadn't meant to but there were just some things people didn't bring up. It wasn't only her that had gone through so much pain and she didn't want people bringing it up. She didn't mind remembering most of her own pain because it was what made her who she was but it still hurt sometimes. There wasn't a single slayer or person on their side that hadn't lost something and suffered greatly. That was how it was and she didn't want anyone to believe they would give up because of it. She felt like she had something in common with the strange man that she was now talking to but she couldn't quite put her finger on it. She wasn't sure how long they could continue to talk like this uninterrupted though because Giles had probably already talked to the girls she'd brought over.
"I need to ask you one more thing. The awakening, how did it occur?"
Faith was a bit taken aback by the question. She had just assumed that everyone knew the answer to that question. Maybe Willow wasn't as famous as Faith had thought. She smiled at him and shrugged. "The most powerful witch in the world did it. She's pretty much amazing in every way. She messed with the rules and she made a whole world of powerful slayers. I wouldn't have it any other way."
"Faith? You okay?" A slayer said from inside the gate. She was looking like she was itching for a fight. They must have sent her out. There were a couple others standing behind her. They were prepared to help her if she needed it. She nodded her head and sighed. "Yeah. I'm fine." She said reassuring them.

Kai's expectations were definitely correct. He saw a slayer approach from the hotel behind. She didn't seem hostile... yet. And it gave him more time to learn all he could.
"This witch... She did it all singlehandedly?"
The girl must be wielding immense power to perform such an act. Kai wasn't too fond of magic himself. He never liked it and even feared it in a way. It was one of the things, one of the aspects of his life which he didn't quite understand. He felt like a hypocrite sometimes though, because he never favored the magic users, and he himself was one in a way. He had a healing ability, that was passed onto him by the blood of his father...
Kai had a strange characteristic... He often rejected and feared things that he had in himself.. Be it magic, demons, or something third...
Kai came to a point when he had nothing more he could learn... He now knew why all the slayers were gathering here, he knew of the awakening, he knew all he needed to. And now what? He didn't think this far. He didn't think that the mystery would unfold in such a manner. Kai expected imbalance, he expected a threat that he could fight, but instead he got everything he asked for, without breaking a sweat.
This was the moment that he realized how alone he really was...
"Thank you... Faith."

Faith shooed the slayer away. It wasn't a big deal to her if the girl wanted to help or not. Faith had always known how to take care of herself and she could certainly face this guy and live. This wasn't how she died. She may not have a great warrior's death like Buffy probably would but she would get some small glory. Fate owed her that much, after the shithole of a life they'd pushed her through.
"Willow is one powerful girl. Don't underestimate her." She said laughing a little. Willow was certainly fiesty as well as totally power. "She's a goddess." Faith said trying to explain it better. She wasn't precisely sure as to how Willow had managed it but she was really powerful. With the help of Giles, she'd even learned how to control and yeild that power properly.
Faith had never been a huge fan of magic herself. She was more of a beat it until it dies type of girl. She just didn't see the point in floating pencils. She did enjoy the trick where Willow put Angel's soul back... twice. It was the first spell the witch had ever cast and she pretty much rocked at it. Faith had a lot of respect for the redhead that had been terrified of her for much of her senior year.
"No problem... um?" She hadn't quite caught his name. She gave him a questioning look and waited for him to fill in the blanks. She wasn't sure why but she had the feeling she'd be seeing a lot of him around and she didn't mind that. It would be nice to have a mind like his, challenging every move the slayer made with a question of why. Eventually, she'd get sick of answering that question but for now she thought that she might have to ask herself that question. Half the time she just did something because it seemed like it had to be done. But did it really?
